Hey Punkers,
I saw 90s Grrrrrl band Bikini Kill at the Mosswood Meltdown festival recently. I had liked some of their songs prior to coming to this concert but the vocals were so painful to hear live I had to make this video about the vocals being a “a little pitchy dawg,” as Randy from America’s Got Talent used to say. I looked it up and Kathleen Hanna’s style is explained as “screaming, yelling, and wobbling pitches to convey immediate rage, pain, and defiance rather than smooth harmonies.” But these are just excuses, a singer can be edgy and abrasive without having their voice crack like a teenager multiple times per song. It says a lot that even her defenders described her voice as “wobbling.” Bikini Kill have had a over thirty years to figure the singing part out but they never did. Anyway, it’s a just a throwaway joke.
‘Nuff Said!
