Please enjoy this three minute essay that examines how Metallica never really had any core beliefs, they just wanted subjects that were bad-ass and BRUTAL to fit the heavy metal aesthetic. I also take a look at their source material.
This is part of a series of videos I am doing about how musicians have reacted to the Gaza genocide. At first I was going to break it up into five video essays: What makes a Great Anti-War Songs, Should We Expect Celebrities To Speak Out on Gaza?, Musicians with a half-assed response to Gaza, Top ten WORST musicians on Gaza, Top Ten BEST musicians on Gaza. But now I am going to break it up into even smaller chunks than that in this three minute essay format. I’m doing that because it is difficult to get people to watch entire long-form essays these days and the YouTube algorithm is much kinder to my short than my long-form content. The Metallica video did very well and I have been going in the direction of becoming a music channel anyway (although my subject scope is broader than that).
